REPAIR DISCIPLINES: lime pointing, lime harling (pressed back finish), lime render (imitation ashlar finish), lime washing, burnt sand mastic application

THE PROBLEM
This was a truly unique contract. The Botanics Cottage had been rescued from destruction from its original position on Edinburgh’s Leith Walk: it was painstakingly deconstructed and re-erected within the grounds of the Royal Botanical Gardens, Edinburgh and as a result required the application of soft lime protective coatings to re-instate the buildings original architectural appearance.

Our reputation as experts in the application of lime coatings to buildings of historic interest throughout Scotland, led architects Simpson & Brown to appoint Limerich to undertake this work.

THE OUTCOME
The Botanics Cottage now sits naturally within the boundaries of the RBGS with the appearance that is ‘alike it has always been there. It is a stunning example of what our traditional rubble constructed buildings once would have looked like over 100 years ago.
